Floatation tanks like everything else have evolved with time Once they were
coffin like structures and basically were nothing more than containers for the
solution. The tanks used at Driftaway are truly state of the art. They are
ergonomically designed and equipped with every convenience to make your
float session one of extreme comfort and enjoyment.

The ergonomic design and choice of materials
represent the pinnacle of modern float tank design.
This door may be left open or partially closed. When
fully closed it forms a perfect light seal. Inside the tank
are situated controls for light, audio and video.
The water inside the tank is only 10 inches deep and
the floor of the tank has non slip strips.
Moulded arm rests help the floater ease into or out of
the supine floating position. Ledges allow dry
face-towels to be available during the session, to wipe
off any salt splashes from the face or eyes.
The tank is wide enough to allow you to float without
touching the sides.
The salt solution is precisely maintained at skin
temperature (34.8 Deg C /94.6 Deg F). Research
shows that accurate temperature regulation intensifies
the relaxation response. The tank uses laboratory
grade platinum sensors and computer controlled
circuitry to maintain the temperature within an accuracy
of 0.1 Deg F

Powerful underwater speakers combine with the
acoustic capabilities of the tank itself to turn the interior
into a " sea of sound".
Tank hygiene is taken care of by a powerful, computer
controlled, pump and filtration system.
During filtration cycles, a 90 litre/minute magnetic-drive
pump forces the salt solution- at high pressure-
through a 30 micron mesh filter element to remove all
impurities. Two high power waterjets in the floatation
chamber ensure that the entire 550 litres of solution is
circulated at least twice during a 15 minute filtration
cycle.
Although the 22% salt concentration has a powerful
sterlilizing effect and eliminates the vast majority of
micro organisms, we also use an in-line bromine
dispenser in the filtration unit which automatically
maintains low levels ( 2 - 4 parts per million) of free
bromine in the solution. This ensures that the water is
kept absolutely sterile and sparklingly clean and does
not have any of the negative effects associated with the
use of chlorine.
All tanks are fitted with an intercom system allowing
two way communication between the client and central
control. Tanks are also fitted with a 19 inch plasma
screen to enable video data to be relayed for clients
wishing to take advantage of power learning
techniques.

a double skin method to ensure that annoying
condensation drips are eliminated.
